About Jani
Hi, I’m Jani Orbinski, a Helsinki-based sound designer and composer. I specialize in narrative audio, including audio drama, documentaries, and podcasts, with extensive experience working with Yleisradio (The Finnish Broadcasting Company) on long-form productions.
I design sound and compose music as an integral part of the dramaturgy — shaping how a piece unfolds in time, how attention is guided, and how emotional and narrative arcs are experienced through sound.
Alongside media work, I have created sound and music for theatre and dance. This background in the performing arts has fostered a deep expertise in spatial audio, allowing me to treat physical and virtual spaces as active dramaturgical tools. It informs my approach to structure, rhythm, and the dynamic relationship between sound and performance.
I also work with generative and interactive audio using tools like Max/MSP to push the boundaries of how sound interacts with its environment.

Kesäpäivä Toimistolla
Made for it.kupla.net (Yle) This was one of the last songs I made for this series. Since I was also Sound Designer for this project, I knew we will need something very chill for the moments where sun is shining before the Y2K crash.
